Bubbling B on comeback
Posted On 01/17/2009 05:02:29 by Audiozim

CELEBRATED radio personality, Bridgette Gavanga — who recently quit Power FM arguing that she had reached "a saturation point with being a DJ" — has denied that her return is a sign that she is battling for relevance in the entertainment industry.

The 36-year-old wheel-spinner has since returned to the Power Breakfast Show on Power FM between 6-9 am during weekdays as a part-timer.

Her return, which has been met with mixed feelings by some Power FM listeners, comes after Dr Zobha and DJ Squilla, who hosted the programme for over a year, were reassigned at the station.

There is a belief that local radio presenters become irrelevant once they leave ZBH as people forget about them and this explains why most of the DJs, who had quit since 2000, have returned mostly as part-timers.

The list includes DJ Munya and Kudzi Marudza.

Bubbling B has been on and off Power FM having initially resigned from the Gweru-based station in 2004 saying, "our lives were greatly affected when we moved to Gweru."

However, she rejoined the station three years later.

After her return, she also left the station in 2007 after she got a job as an Artist & Repertoire manager at the Zimbabwe Music Corporation.

Last year she indicated that she was going to South Africa on a three-month exchange programme amid reports that she intended to set up base there together with two other seasoned former radio personalities.

She however, denies going to South Africa on a job-hunting mission.

"I had just gone there for my private business and that's all. I was not job hunting and I was never attached to any radio station.

"Nothing like you have asked has changed. I'm just working the on a part-time basis.

"My new role at Power Fm does not affect my other commitments. Ko inga tinoridza makuseni paRadio then we go kuma clubs mainly at the weekend or manheru," she explained.
